It can be a dangerous endeavor for a MBCer to enter the warzone we call the local grocery store…
When you find yourself deep behind enemy lines attempting to purchase food that will not fragment your children’s DNA and violently enlarge your waist line; here are some things to keep in mind when you are in the line of fire (or in line in Wal-Mart).
Do not purchase products that contain any of the following anti-nutrients within the top 5 ingredients.
- High Fructose Corn Syrup
- Corn syrup
- Hydrogenated or Partially Hydrogenated Oils
- Partially hydrogenated soybean oil
- Partially hydrogenated vegetable oil
- Corn oil or Canola oil
- Vegetable oil
- Refined sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Phosphoric acid
- Sodium Laurel Sulfate (look for this in food, shampoos, body-wash, and tooth-paste)
- Enriched flour aka bleached flour. If it doesn’t say UNBLEACHED than you must assume it is bleached. Code word for the bleaching process is “dough processing” tricky, tricky, tricky.
Beware of these hidden toxic traps used to fool consumer:
Low Fat Product: Manufacturers will resort to increasing HFCS and sodium content to adjust flavor.
Zero grams Trans fat: loop hole in law allows less than a gram of trans fat per serving to be classified as zero grams trans fat. If it has hydrogenated oils or partial hydrogenated oils in the product it has hidden trans fats. Avoid at all cost. Look at the label not the packaging!
Naturally occurring sugars
- 100% fruit juice
- All Organic: High fructose corn syrup can be called natural and or organic. Beware of this “healthy” smoke screen. If the cover is telling you it is healthy…IT IS ALMOST CERTAINLY NOT!
- Fructose
- Multiple servings per container : “But mom it only has 8 grams of sugar… “GOTCHA! There are 4 servings per container – which means 32 grams of sugar! Tricky little buggers aren’t they?
Sounds scary but are Ok to consume:
- Malic Acid
- Ascorbic Acid
- Citric Acid
- Amino Acid
- Fractionated palm-seed oil
- Malt syrup
- Xylitol
- Turbinado Sugar
Bottle Battles: On the bottom of all plastic containers you will find a number in a triangle. Avoid #3 at all cost. Purchase containers marked with 2#, #4, and #5.
Key: #1 PET (polyethylene terephthalate) #2 HDPE(high density polyethylene) #3 PVC(polyvinyl chloride) #4 LDPE(low density polyethylene) #5 PP(polypropylene) #6 PS/PS-E(polystyrene) #7 PC( polycarbonate)
In my opinion many of the less reputable Food manufacturers always working to develop new weapons and smoke screens to trick us into addictive eating patterns and induce money making disease-states in our bodies.
