Bad Neck & Back= Bad Brain
Chronic neck and lower back pain ( pain>6mo) will be found to be one of the major causes of early onset dementia. Chronic lower back Pain Is Associated with Brain Volume Loss in Adults: Preliminary Evidence Neilly Buckalew MSIII1, Marc W. Haut PhD5,*, Lisa Morrow PhD2 and Debra Weiner MD2,3,4.
More Bad news for our brains…
Common Drugs for pain relief will soon be linked to Dementia…
Those that use OTCs and prescription drugs to manage their chronic pain may actually be accelerating brain loss and increasing their risks of developing early onset dementia.
The Theory
Amino Acids are critical to human life—we cannot live without them. One in particular—Glutathione—is the body’s most powerful natural anti-toxin, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. Highest concentrations of Glutathione (glue-tah-thigh-own) are found in our eyes, brains, livers and hearts. Along with other health issues, low levels of Glutathione have been shown to accelerate the chances of an individual developing Early Onset Dementia.
So . . . what does that have to do with my neck & shoulder pain? |
The problem is that the most heavily-used drug in America todaydepletes the body’s natural stores of Glutathione.
And you may not realize that you are taking this drug. |
This powerful chemical is used in more than 600 over-the-counter products, including Robitussin®, Excedrin®, Theraflu®, Nyquil®, Children’s Tylenol®, Goody’s® Powders and many store brand pain/flu medications. [ See: www.knowyourdose.org ] It’s Acetaminophen—the generic name for Tylenol®.
The FDA lists over 70 prescriptions that contain acetaminophen, and warns against its potential to cause severe and irreversible, liver injury. [ Search Acetaminophen at: www.fda.gov/Drugs/ ]
Unless you are OK with working against your body’s natural defenses, you might want to avoid products that contain acetaminophen. If you take prescriptions that include acetaminophen, you might want to ask your Health Care Provider for a substitute that does not contain this Glutathione-depleting chemical.
Pay attention to what you give to your family, too—especially to the kids.
It gets even worse for our brains…
Anesthesia linked to Alzheimer’s
A recent study of 9000 postoperative patient revealed a starling link between anesthesia and acute cognitive decline. An analysis of data from more than 9,000 men and women who’d had a general anesthetic in the previous two years were 3 times more likely to develop dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Chronic Pain could be the leading cause of centralized fat accumulation.
Pain causing weight gain? It goes right along with my metabolic research on the leading cause of mid-line fat accumulation from excessive insulin release. When our bodies and brains are in pain their central nervous systems are stuck in threat mode. This triggers a massive spike in blood sugars and inflammatory metabolites…the perfect combination to activate lipogensis( fat production) without ever biting into a Crispy Cream doughnut!
Thanks for the great news…so what do I do just suffer with my pain?
Masking pain isn’t working…just look at your parents to see that ugly truth. The new clinical model of patient care is to discover the source of your pain…and corrected it.
How?
First Try our PM Brain and Pain formula: it is a powerful, nontoxic pain killer that snuffs out the cartilage fires caused by arthritis, tendinitis and fibromyalgia without damaging the intestines and liver of the user. To upgrade its pain killing /tissue repairing factors place one full scoop of the PM blend in 7oz of spring water, 3oz. of tart cherry juice and one full scoop of the GEN 10 PM blend . Drink this slowly from 8:00 pm to 8:30 pm every night. Expect a 1 to 3 pound weight loss during the night when using the PM blend. Here’s the great news not only does it preserve your brain glutathione levels it actually promotes it!
Next,
We must elevate our levels of awareness of what is causing our pain. We must go through a thorough self-assessment to customize a plan to address your specific needs. We then must develop a sustainable method of addressing the issue through focused life application. Finally, once corrected we must learn to resist it return to our lives.
Developing your Awareness
The Problem isn’t Pain… its P.A.P!
Pain avoidance patterns or P.A.P. is a term I coined to communicate to my patients what was causing their ongoing chronic pain syndromes. Reach up and squeeze the muscle that stretches from your shoulder up into your neck. Can you find a knot in the otherwise relaxed muscles belly? This is evidence that you have been adversely affected by a P.A.P. Is it always on one side? Yes, strike two. Have you had deep tissue massage or a cortisone injection into that area and felt better only to have it reappear a few days to weeks later…in exactly the same place! Oh yah you been struck by P.A.P.
Pain Avoidance patterns
When you turn your head to the right the left side of your neck and shoulders should relax. Make sense. What happens if instead they tightening up even harder. Wow, what a train wreck that would be! Welcome to a P.A.P. We can massage the muscle, inject the muscle, medicate the muscle and get absolutely no where other than a little closer to dementia with each pill. Why don’ these therapies work? Because the problem is not in your muscle it is in your spinal cord and BRAIN.
Brain Body Battles
When you flex your bicep your brain and spinal cord reciprocally inhibit your triceps. HUH? Make a muscle. Feel the front of your arm. Its tight, flexed and hard. Whoa..your buff! Now feel the back of your arm. It’s not violently contracting is it. Not if your brain and spinal cord are synchronized and functionally optimally.
What if the back of your arm was flexing as the front of your arm was also flexing. Well, both muscle s would begin to fatigue quickly. The nearby joint…in this case the elbow joint would start to rock with the pain of compression and inflammation. If this battle continued both the muscles would become full of trigger point which are partially torn muscle fibers in varying states of inflammation. You talk about pain! Ouch!
Why is this happening to me?
Birth Injuries ( ocular issues)
Whip lash injuries ( headaches, neck and shoulder)
Glory days (Rotator cuff injuries)
Hemisphere hot Spots ( TMJ)
Postural Adaptation patterns… just another form of P.A.P.
Problem: Sitting for greater than 30 minutes P.A.P (scalene, flexors/hamstrings/plantar fascia)
Solution: Stand instead of sit/ Stool instead of chair/ Computer screen above the horizon
Problem Texting and I pad use
Solution: Posture of Prayer/ setting tight time limits
Problem: Excellent support for feet
Solution: Stimulating intrinsic muscles of the feet
Problem: Sit ups/lunges/crunches
Solution: Elongation exercises
OK, Now let’s find out what your problem is and how we can fix it
Dr. Tom’s Self Evaluation
Get in front of a mirror. Preferably naked. Isn’t the problem very ,very evident. Just kidding.
Low Moon/ High ball sign
Mirror Marching Test
Slack jaw test:
Solution: add 500mg of GABA to your GEN 10 PM formula consider a night guard.
Trigger trap test
Solution: Fixation therapy
Apply Cryoderm, Bio Freeze or a wintergreen oil to the trigger point to accelerate tissue response.
Always have an ocular anchor when performing these pain reduction techniques.
Rotator Rise Response
Solution: “Row your Boat” Fixation therapy
Posture of Death
Solution: Posture of Prayer upgrade to Metabolic Plank
Always have a compression ball between your thighs when performing the metabolic plank.
Bad Knees Bad Back
Solution: Sugar Squat
Bad Feet Bad Knees Bad Brain
Solution: Metabolic Ball
Resist the Return of Pain by resisting the return of P.A.P.
Find a good neuro based chiropractor rhythmic spinal adjustments every 14 days if you are 40 plus hours and are seat for more than 3 hours per day.
Daily fixation therapy in the shower
15 to 20 Shoulder scoops prior to lifting heavy
Metabolic Ball 2 minutes 2 times per week
Posture of Prayer 5 minutes three times per week. Getting too advanced ?Throw few one minute Metabolic planks into the mix.
Sugar Squat 3 minutes 2 times per week.
